LOW CHEAW HWEI, HEAD OF DESIGN, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION

Cheaw Hwei, formerly the Head of Philips Experience Design and Government & Public Affairs (G&PA) for ASEAN Pacific, was instrumental in advancing design consulting as a strategic creative capability within the company. His focus was on leveraging transdisciplinary design as a business innovation practice, particularly in consumer electronics, lifestyle, and healthcare experience transformation.

In his role as Philips Global Head of Product and Spatial Design, Cheaw Hwei directed the creative vision for Philips’ global portfolio. He positioned design as a fundamental partner in technology, enhancing brand experience and product quality. His leadership contributed to the creation of many iconic Philips products.

An accomplished designer, Cheaw Hwei is renowned for his strategic thought leadership and hands-on design expertise. He has built and led international design teams, held various creative leadership and design management roles across Europe and Asia, and guided these teams to commercial success and numerous global design accolades, including RedDot Design Team of The Year and Singapore President’s Design Award.

Cheaw Hwei has also been actively involved in various design platforms, committees, and advisory boards. His roles include serving on the Design Singapore Council Board, the Singapore Design Masterplan 2025 Committee, the Committee for Future Economy for Innovation and Capability Development, the ICSID World Design Congress, and the Design Education Advisory Committee. Additionally, he has contributed to the advisory boards of design Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs) and has judged prestigious international design awards such as iF, Red Dot, and the Singapore Design Award. In recognition of his significant contributions to design and education, he was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2017.

Currently, as independent consultant and a member of the IPI Innovation Advisory program, Cheaw Hwei provides strategic design consultation in healthcare experience design, design-led business innovation, and creative direction for product and spatial experience design. He is also in the process of establishing a design think tank.
